18 carat Gold or 22carat Gold

There is often confusion over whether to make your Stone jewelry in 18carat gold or 22carat!

18 carat gold contains 75% gold, with the rest made up of other more durable metal alloys used to add colour and strength. It is hard compared to 22carat gold. It can withstand the stone more effectively in setting.

22 carat gold – is very soft, as it consists of around 91.6% gold and so it’s not ideal for stone set jewellery, being more suitable for plain gold jewellery, such as wedding bands. Soft gold can easily change the shape over long use and can make stone settings loose, which can be risky.
